3 Truths About Hair Loss and What To Do About It

We started our piece this month with the thought that somehow we could contribute some words of advice and solutions to an age old issue. That issue is hair loss and what can one do when facing what some would consider a life changing moment. As we did our research on hair loss we found that there are many reasons for Hair loss however we found 3 main reasons that contribute to the majority of cases that we see. 

1. Heredity

 Hair loss do to hereditary conditions is very common in men and women. Most prominent in women who have gone through menopause. In females research has proven that genes, hormones, along with age play a significant role in female hair loss. The simple scientific answer for women losing their hair can described in this way; as the hair follicles shrink and the hair sheds It does not grow back. This can come as quite a shock to someone in their teens and early 20’s, and because we cannot modify the genetics in humans, you are who you are…However Solution Unless a preventive treatment is started, hereditary hair loss becomes more pronounced over time. Generally, the earlier hair loss begins, the more severe it will become. Minoxidil or finasteride, if used, must be continued indefinitely to maintain results.

2.Androgenic Alopecia

Androgenetic Alopecia disorder can be diagnosed on other areas of the body but it is most noticeable in the scalp. In men Alopecia is known as “Male Pattern Baldness” gradually being reduced around the temples usually forming an “M” shape. What tends to happen is that the hair follicle does not experience the normal three cycles or phases that our hair goes through. Our hair grows, transitions, rest and when alopecia occurs the third cycle is interrupted and the growth stage does not occur normally. Alopecia is a disorder that gradually takes place over time and is a disorder that has many a variations. Solution There are some doctor prescribed medications which have shown a very high successful rate in hair regrowth and works well with Alopecia patients. Hair loss is expected and it occurs on other areas of the body, however the most noticeable to on your face and head. The hair loss due to Chemotherapy starts the 2nd to 4th week of treatment and will usually last throughout the treatment and up to a few weeks after the treatment. The great news is that Hair loss due to Chemotherapy usually begins to grow back within 3 to 6 months.
